We have started the journey to our new home in Mississippi. It is a very bittersweet experience. On the one hand, I hate that we are leaving behind some incredible people, amazing food, and the best job ever. However, I am excited beyond words to leave city living and get back to a slower pace of life. Once a southerner always a southerner I suppose.
We have bought our very first home with a huge backyard for the boys. The housing market in Mississippi is vastly different to what we had seen in California. Living in the heart of Silicon Valley A 950 sq ft 2 bed 1 bath priced at one million would have a bidding war. So when we were looking at houses in Mississippi Matt and I felt like we were getting a steal of a deal with the asking price, when our realtor said he could get them down from that our jaws about hit the floor.
About a week before moving we loaded everything we couldn’t sell into a POD truck and had been sleeping on an air mattress in our empty living room ever since. Luckily some sweet friends let us raid their house (Thanks Savages!) for blankets because all we remembered to leave out of the moving container were a fitted sheet and some pillow pets. Whoops!
I took my last final at school and then jumped into the car where Matt was waiting with the boys loaded in the back. The trip is about 33 hours of driving time, but we will be stopping in Arizona and Louisiana along the way to visit with family. Matt and I love to turn on Spotify and take turns putting songs in the queue. We have vastly different taste in music so one minute we will be listening to Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana” and the next Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Hamilton has ended up being a pretty popular choice for both of us so far. What do you do to pass the time on a long drive?
