Tacos in Texas

En route to my sister’s house to Louisiana, we passed through the small Texas town where I grew up. There was so much I would have loved to do/see but we were tight on time, so I took Matt to my favorite place to get authentic Mexican food.

Tortilleria La Original de Zacatecas

7931 Camp Bowie W Blvd, Benbrook, TX 76116

It doesn’t look like much, but I promise it is a fiesta in your mouth. I am a firm believer that the best food comes out of hole in the wall joints. That belief started with this taqueria. There is an athletic field in Benbrook where I would play soccer when I was younger and then stop for lengua tacos on my way home. During high school, if I got to choose where my friends and I ate, we were headed here.

I have yet to have a bad bite to eat off of this menu, but I always get the lengua tacos it is the juiciest, most flavorful, melt in your mouth lengua I have ever had sprinkled with onion cilantro on warm homemade corn tortillas. While waiting on your food you get to enjoy complimentary freshly made tortilla chips and salsa; they have a small variety, I highly recommend the green tomatillo salsa.  Don’t forget to get an ice cream from the freezer I believe it is only $1.50 they have some unique flavors, but I always love the coconut!
